At the eastern end of False Bay there is a small exposure of Eocene strata, dipping west. Near the mouth of Rose Cañon the strata dip southwest, and at the mouth of the cañon they dip 40° northeast. Along the road which leads over the hills to La Jolla the rocks are tilted at a very high angle to the southwest.
